Although more recently constructed than many traditional castles, Cardiff Castle and its grounds boast 2,000 years of history. The site served as a Roman garrison and a Norman stronghold before becoming a Gothic castle during Victorian times. Today the castle is one of Wales' most popular attractions and tours of its many lavish apartments and ornately-decorated rooms (from the Victorian period) are available.
